  Welcome to the last post of the year. 2020 is finally over.  I'm cautiously optimistic for 2021 Bait and Witch by Angela M. Sanders My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was my first cozy mystery and I really enjoyed it. The paranormal aspect is what drew me in and I liked that our main character was a librarian. This is perfect if you're looking for something that's not too heavy. Josie Way, left her job at the Library of Congress to hide out in Wilfred, Oregon. She's the small town's new librarian, which is housed in a Victorian mansion. She's only just found out that the position is short-term. Shorter than she planned to stay because the library is on the verge of being torn down and than she finds a body out in the woods. Other odd things are happening as well. She and the library cat share the same star-shaped birthmark, When patrons ask for a book she recommends just what they need. The books seem to be whispering to her too.   A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Mayhem by Manda Collins My rating: 5 of 5 stars I really enjoyed every second of this book. It was a nice balance of romance and mystery. The supporting characters were great too! Especially Val and Caro. Lady Katherine Bascomb runs and writes for England's most notorious newspaper. With a serial killer on the loose, she decides to write a column targetted at society ladies to educated them about the crimes going on in the city and those committed against the fairer sex. She and her fellow columnist discover a lead the police overlooked and run the story, leading to the arrest of an innocent man. She flees the city to a friend's estate who is hosting a small gathering and while out walking the grounds comes upon a dead body.   All Scot and Bothered by Kerrigan Byrne My rating: 5 of 5 stars So good! Kerrigan Byrne draws you in and makes it impossible to put down. I love the Red Rogues and how they have each other's backs. Cecelia was strong and resilient despite her initial upbringing. Cassius was so grumpy I wondered when I was going to like him and lucky that finally changed. I did not want this one to end. I'm already looking forward to the next book in this series. Cecelia Teague was plucked from an abusive home by a secret benefactor and sent to respected boarding schools and even university. The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was my very first Vera Stanhope novel. and it was a great introduction to this series. But be warned if you're looking for a fast-paced thriller this is not it. This novel takes you through the meticulous steps of investigating what happened to a young woman who was found dead in the snow. On a snowy night as Vera Stanhope heads home, she misses a turn and becomes lost. She comes upon a car that has skidded off the road, its front door open and no driver visible. As she investigates she hears a cry from the car and discovers a toddler still strapped in the back seat. With no cell signal, she travels to the nearest home which just happens to be Brockburn. The estate where her father once called home. Inside there's a dinner party taking place and while Vera waits for the blizzard to pass and more information on the vehicle left in the road. The Night Swim by Megan Goldin My rating: 5 of 5 stars Riveting. If I could only describe this book in one word, that would be it. From beginning to end. And I'll be thinking about this book for a long time. Rachel Krall is a true-crime podcast host covering a controversial rape trial that has divided the small town and she also finds herself drawn to an old crime that took place there years ago. Mostly recognized for her voice, she finds it disturbing when she finds a note addressed to her on her car windshield. And that's all I can say because I don't want to spoil anything. In Her Shadow by Kristin Miller My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book sucked me right in! And I found myself reaching for a notebook to keep some notes while I read. Michael is moving his pregnant girlfriend Colleen into the house he once shared with his wife Joanna, who walked out on him. The grand house is cold and the staff hostile. As Colleen tries to settle in she feels like Joanna's presence looms over her. Then bones are discovered in the grove across the street. Michael falls under the suspicion of the detectives handling the case and Colleen will do anything to help protect her new life. How could she move into the house he once shared with his wife?
