Review: The Book of Second Chances by Katherine Slee

Image
The Book of Second Chances by Katherine Slee My rating: 4 of 5 stars Honestly, I'm not even sure where, to begin with, this book. After the death of her Grandmother, famous author Catriona Robinson, Emily is sent on a scavenger hunt, to find an unpublished manuscript. Otherwise, she risks losing the home she lives in and the rights to her famous book series. Each stop holds clues for the next stop and letters from her Grandmother. But she's not travelling alone. Her Grandmother has tasked a childhood friend to accompany her. Forcing her to exam parts of her past, relive painful parts and learn how to grow from it all. I definitely had to take me time reading this book because there was so much to observe. Ultimately, I was happy that it forced me to slow down and enjoy this book. Review: The Highlander's English Bride by Vanessa Kelly

Image
The Highlander's English Bride by Vanessa Kelly My rating: 4 of 5 stars Loved, loved, loved this book. This is the third book in the Clan Kendrick Series and can be read as a stand-alone. Graeme Kendrick works for the King's Spymaster while watching a thief skulk through Hyde Park, he comes to Lady Sabrina Bell's rescue when the thief pushes her into the Serpentine. When a close friend finds out what Lady Sabrina was doing out at such a late hour, she is warned about her would-be suitor being a fortune hunter. And again he finds himself rescuing her as thieves ransack the ball they are attending. Now Graeme must travel to Scotland ahead of the King's visit to make sure things are secure upon his arrival and little does he know that the beautiful and exasperating Lady Sabrina is also joining the King. Because she has plans to get under Mr Kendrick's skin. There's action from beginning to end, which makes this a pretty great read. So it never felt boring. I

Review: Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Madsen

Image
Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Madsen My rating: 5 of 5 stars Violet has been a bridesmaid seven times. She was sure her wedding day was near until she found her fiance with another woman in his arms. She heads to Uncertainty to help her sister redesign her bakery, spend time with her niece and to try to find her muse again. Upon arriving she almost starts a fire. Ford Macguire does search and rescue, trains puppies and fights fires, so he doesn't have time for distractions. But she's a really cute distraction. And he gets her to help him with the puppy training and his "man of honor" duties just to spend more time with her. As they begin to fall in love he lets his insecurities push her away. Loved their banter and how he just accepted who she was, unlike her ex. The scenes with the puppies are of course adorable. Especially Trouble. This is the second book in the Getting Hitched in Dixie series and can be read as a standalone. I'm looking forward to the nex

Review: Accidentally Family by Sasha Summers

Image
Accidentally Family by Sasha Summers My rating: 5 of 5 stars Oh my, this book came out of nowhere and hit me in the feels. I couldn't put it down. From the first page all the way till the end I was invested in this accidental family. Felicity is the one who holds her family together ever since her ex-husband walked out on their family. Graham was her husband former business partner and her best friends husband, while her marriage was falling apart his wife was dying. Now their back in each other life after another loss. They find themselves slowly leaning on one another. and realizing they might just want to be more than friends. Of course, there are a lot of complications they have to navigate. But it is a start to a new beginning. I hope the author has plans for more books in this series. I want more from all of these characters. Braden and Charity. Owen and Honor. Nick. Diana. Now I need to go pre-order a copy of this book! Read it, I think you'll like it! ARC provide

Review: When You Wish Upon a Rogue by Anna Bennett

Image
When You Wish Upon a Rogue by Anna  Bennett My rating: 5 of 5 stars Why is it over? When I got the end of the chapter I was hoping for more. That's how much I was enjoying this story. And the second book I've read with an Underworld themed garden. Sophie Kendall has to marry in order to help her financially struggling family. Which she has been putting off because she enjoys running her secret society of The Debutante's Revenge column and will have to step back once married. Looking for a larger space to accommodate her growing group, she meets Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, in the vacant tailor's shop she checking. When she notices his dark circles she offers to help him get some sleep. When he wakes up the next morning, he seeks her out to strike a bargain. Her help with his sleeplessness for the use of his building. There was something about the way these two talked to one another, got to know one another, that really got to me. I found myself really caring abo

Review: The Love of a Libertine by Jess Michaels "Out Today!"

Image
The Love of a Libertine by Jess Michaels My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was a solid 4 stars read for me. Elizabeth has led a sheltered life after being privately ruined by an unscrupulous man, a few years ago. So the last thing she wants is a rogue coming onto her brother's staff. The more she gets to know him, the more drawn she becomes to Morgan. Morgan is the bastard son of a duke and a courtesan. He's led a wildish life. He wakes up in Newgate and finds his estranged brother there to get him out, but he has to promise to start being responsible and to get his life together by taking on a job as a Man of Affairs for a friend. Elizabeth intrigues him and he knows he should stay away but he just can't. I really enjoyed the time Morgan spent getting to know Elizabeth. He spends time observing her and noticing how she holds herself outside from the group gathered at her brother's estate. He knows that something happened in her past. And Morgan goes about trying to hel

Review: Arctic Bite by N.J. Walters

Image
Arctic Bite by N.J. Walters My rating: 5 of 5 stars This is the second book in the Forgotten Brotherhood Series. And it is just as good as the first book. Only Alexei Medvedev isn't a fallen angel, he's a polar bear shifter and something else. He's tracked his next target Cassandra Dobbs, to a remote Alaskan town, to gather as much information as possible before taking the assignment. And he can't quite figure out why someone has put a bounty on her head. On top of that, he finds himself attracted to the target. When another paranormal walks into the bar where Cassie works attempting to collect on her bounty, Alexei is overcome with the need to protect her from this immortal being. Knowing reapers are on their way to collect the deceased being Cassie urges Alexei to run with her before she is discovered. The book was fast-paced, especially those action scenes. I enjoyed the scenes where Alexei and Cassandra are getting to know each other. The introduction of

Review: Scandalous Passions by Nicola Davidson

Image
Scandalous Passions by Nicola Davidson My rating: 4 of 5 stars I don't think I've ever read a historical menage romance. I really liked it. Lady Janet is Scotland'smost notorious sinner. As the King's former mistress, who still holds favor with him, his new Queen wants her gone. So she is sent away with the Sir Lachlan Ross as know as the Highland Beast, to protect her and her new ward, Lady Marjorie Hepburn. Having been raised in a convent Lady Janet sets out to teach her new ward all the secrets of a happy marriage bed. And Lachlan, she wishes to tame him and he might just let her. I just wish this had been longer. It's over before you know it. Don't get me wrong this book gives you a lot despite how short it is. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. And this author's back catalog. View all my reviews xo Alicia
