How to Capture a Duke
How to Capture a Duke by Tina Gabrielle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lady Olivia is dragged to a country house party at the residence of the Duke of Keswick by her Mother in hopes of finding her a husband. She escapes to the stables and while admiring the horses is sent back to the house by the head groomsmen.
The next morning she heads out to the stables determined to ride and she heads out with the groomsman unchaperoned. Upon her returned she's summoned by the dowager duchess and accused of stealing another Lady's family heirloom. When she mentions her unchaperoned ride as proof of her innocence, she learns the groom is Tristan, the Duke of Keswick.
To avoid scandal it's decided that they must marry immediately. Tristan believes she manipulated this whole scheme, no matter what she says.
This was such a slow burn. He fights his attraction to her. And when she mentions producing an heir, he shuts it down. He's afraid a child would have his stutter and wants to avoid passing that on.
She knows she has to gain his trust and with the help of her sister sets actions in motion to help him pass a bill he feels passionate about.
I really enjoyed this book and did not expect the twist towards the end. I found myself tearing up when he tells her about not wanting to pass on his stutter and the reason his own mother was so cold towards him.
