Review: The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki

Image
source The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki My rating: 5 of 5 stars After his ship is attacked, Sir Kennan Cameron washes onto the shores of a deserted island, delirious and nearly dead. When he comes to he finds that he is not alone, Divana Campbell has been on the island alone after she was abandoned by her family. She nurses him back to health and he makes a plan to get them off the island. Together they set off for his father's home. And it's just the beginning of all their adventures. This is the last book in the Lords of the Highlands series but it can be read as a stand-alone. This is an action-packed romance from beginning to end. I hated having to put it down. I loved that Divana was so strong and self-sufficient. She didn't need Kennan but she wanted him. Kennan is a classic Highlander who falls for the girl when he least expects it. Loved every second of it! ARC provided by Forever and NetGalley View all my reviews

Review: The Perfect Distraction by Allison Ashley

Image
Perfect Distraction by Allison Ashley My rating: 4 of 5 stars Sweet, emotional read! Here's the blurb: Lauren Taylor isn't thinking about love, especially not with the impossibly attractive man she accidentally spilled coffee all over. He's out of her league and she's focused on finishing her oncology pharmacy residency. She's sworn off men who are too handsome for their own good, anyway. Andrew Bishop can't stop thinking about the gorgeous redhead who crashed into him and then disappeared, even though he should have way more on his mind - like dealing with his Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis and finishing out his last year in law school. When Andrew and Lauren run into each other at the cancer center where she's working and he's being treated, they try to keep it professional. They can be friends, and nothing more. But sometimes life has other plans… This book was a sweet slow-burn. They spend most of the book getting to know each other and slowly falli

Review: Fury Unleashed by N.J. Walters

Image
my screenshot Fury Unleashed by N.J. Walters My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book was so good! Maybe I biased cause I love angels, fallen one too sometimes. But it's much more than that. Here's the professional blurb: Maccus Fury, a fallen angel, is trying hard to keep his sanity. Seems being an assassin might be catching up with him. Now, Heaven, or Hell, has sent a beautiful assassin to kill him. Lovely. She’s pretending to seduce him, and he’s okay with that. She’s smart and snarky––but she has no idea what she’s walked into. And he’s more than peeved that they only sent one person. They’re going to need an army if they want him dead. Morrigan Quill is one of Hell’s bounty hunters. She sold her soul to keep her sister safe, and now she’s working off her contract by catching bad guys and dragging them back to hell. Just a hundred years to go. When Hades makes her a new offer––that’s definitely too good to be true––she can’t say no. All she has to do is kill a powerf

Review: The Duke's Wicked Wife by Elizabeth Bright

Image
screenshot The Duke's Wicked Wife by Elizabeth   Bright My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this slow-burn romance. 4.5 stars The blurb: Sebastian Sinclair, the Duke of Wessex, is not in love with Eliza Benton—nor anyone else, for that matter. But he must marry and produce an heir, and love is not required for either. His future duchess must be of high birth and good nature, a lady unlikely to snipe at him over breakfast. In short, the complete opposite of Eliza. So who better to help him find a bride? Eliza Benton is not in love with the Duke of Wessex. He’s infuriating, arrogant, and an ass of the first order. Not that she has any intention of marrying anyone now that her secret dream is on the cusp of becoming reality. A husband would ruin all her careful plans. But she’s all for finding her nemesis the perfect bride, anything to get him from underfoot so she can focus on her writing. Thank goodness Sebastian and Eliza aren’t in love. That would be disastrous. Elizab

Review: Woman on the Edge by Samantha Bailey

Image
source Woman on the Edge by Samantha M. Bailey My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book was AMAZING. From beginning to end. It was hard to put down. It starts off with a bang and almost never slows down. The book is told in two parts that switch back and forth by chapter. The present-day is told from Morgan's POV, the past from Nicole's. Morgan is standing on the platform waiting for her train to arrive when a woman hands her baby and jumps in front of a train. Besides adding a baby this opening scene totally reminded me of the opening to Orphan Black and that description had me sold and did not disappoint. Nicole's chapters deal with finding out she's pregnant, a secret from her past and the worry it brings. I don't know what else to say without spoiling things. I felt anxious as Morgan's tries to figure out why Nicole handed her baby to her. I doubted and felt Nicole's paranoia at the same time. So GOOD Thanks to all who provided this ARC! # #WomanOnTheEdg

Review: The Forgotten Home Child by Genevieve Graham

Image
source The Forgotten Home Child by Genevieve Graham My rating: 5 of 5 stars I knew this book would deal with some heavy topics. I never expected it to leave me in tears. Once I finish a book I can usually dive right into the next without a problem. But this one haunted me. I knew it was fiction but knowing that these types of things happened in the past weighed on me as I read. Winny is ninety-seven years old, living with her granddaughter and great-grandson Jamie, the spitting image of her late husband. An old wooden trunk has them asking questions when it's contents tumble out. It's part of Winny's painful past she longed to forget. And when they ask her about the family tree she starts her story at what brought her to Canada. The book is told in parts each one starting in present day. Then the chapters move to the past told from Winny's point of view and switch back and forth to Jack's point of view. They are indentured servants who were told that they wer
